Antonín Dvořák was born in Nelahozeves – Czech Republic and is considered one of the most outstanding Czech composers and as the most worthy representative of the Viennese school and the Romantic Movement. After the death of his daughter, Josefa in 1876, A. Dvořák composed the first version of “Stabat Mater” for four soloists, choir and piano, leaving it without an orchestral score. Shortly afterwards, in 1877, he loses his two other children. At this point, he returns to the manuscript, which he had abandoned a year earlier.
“Stabat Mater” ended as an expression of hope. The style is a symbol of symphonic poem, German oratory and Italian opera, but written from the depth of the heart.
