On the evening of January 22nd, the National Theater of Opera, Ballet and Folk Ensemble launched the 2021 artistic season 2021 with the cycle of concerts entitled “Artists of the Future”. The General Director of NTOB, Mrs. Zana Çela, said at the opening of the event:

“Four years ago, while we were transporting the sets, the wardrobe, the archive and we were all moving from the Opera House to make space for the reconstruction of the theater, amid the questions of where and how our performances will take place in the years without the theater, an important project, “Artists of the Future”, was stuck in my mind and on my desk.

How will we be able to train and engage new talents now that we are without a theater, without a stage and without rehearsal studios? From my life experience as an artist, I learned what it means to crush a young person’s dreams without giving them the chance of the stage; while from my experience of working as an art manager, I know well what can happen to a theater if you do not provide the artists of the future. We built a platform which did not only foresee the strategy of engaging young artists, materialized with titles of plays and roles where they had to participate.

Even though the studios of the premises where we held our activity in those 4 years without a theater were small and few in number, even though we did not have a rehearsal room, and other normal conditions for a theater, we managed to identify the most talented and have them train with our opera and ballet artists, our stage masters but also with international artists.

102 artists and other young people in technical and stage production or marketing were employed.  Among them, some interpreted main roles. They grew so much artistically that in addition to roles in different titles, we put on stage a complete work, “La Boheme”, as a production made entirely from young people: the director, the set designer, and the main characters. The competition was so great that we introduced 3 Mimis, all three young artists.

Today we open the 2021 artistic season with their concert entitled “Artists of the future”, with those who not only justified the support and training work of our staff but have now turned into support for us, into certainty for the continuation of the best tradition of vocal, ballet and instrumental interpretation.

Dear friends and fanatical followers of the theater, I have the pleasure to open the 2021 season with new artists, those who were discovered and trained in the last 4 years, in the most difficult years of history when the theater had no theater, no stage and no studios.”

This concert, which continues on its second night on the evening of January 23rd, is the first of a cycle of concerts that will promote young artists engaged and trained in NTOB in the recent years and who have excelled in their debuts of main roles in NTOB premieres, as well as the technical, lighting and stage staff.
